Dubai company setup costs: what are you actually paying for?
The price on a quote is only part of the story. Here is how to see what each cost is for and see what each offer includes before you compare prices.
You find a company setup offer. The price looks good. Then you wonder: does that include your visa? A place to work? Help with the paperwork? And what will you pay when it is time to renew?
Starting a company in Dubai feels easier when you can see what each cost is for. This guide helps you read a quote and work out which questions to ask.
What makes one company setup quote different from another?
A few practical choices change the price. Business activity means the type of work your company will do. In plain terms:
- What work the company will do.
- Where it will be registered.
- What desk, office, shop or other space the business needs.
- Whether the owner or staff need residency applications.
- What professional help is included.
- How long the package lasts.
Not every business needs every item. A consultant with no staff and no shop has a shorter list than a shop that hires people and holds stock.

What are you actually paying for?
One quote may include several things in a single price. It helps to see them separately. Some charges go to the authority that registers your company or issues your visa. Others are the service fee — what you pay someone to help with the work. Both are normal. You just want to see which is which.

Renewal dates and costs depend on where you register your company. Check the official price list for your chosen free zone, then ask which charges your quote includes.
“A visa is available” does not always mean “a visa is paid for”
A package may allow the company to apply for a certain number of visas. That is visa eligibility: being allowed to apply. It is not the same as those application costs being included.
For example, one DMCC package page separates visa eligibility (a number of visas you may apply for) from a residency visa that is explicitly listed as included in the price. Both are useful. They mean different things.
Ask which related steps are covered — medical fitness test, Emirates ID and residency visa issuance — and which are separate. Inclusion in a package also does not guarantee approval; each application is still assessed on its own.

You cannot tell which quote costs less until you know what both include. If something is missing, ask for it in writing before you compare the totals.
What will you pay now, and what comes later?
It helps to sort the numbers into three groups:
- Start now: the payments needed for the agreed setup.
- Keep going: the payments that repeat, with their actual dates or periods.
- Add later: extra services or changes you may choose or need.
If a price is described as an introductory or first-year offer, ask what you will pay when the offer ends and when that payment is due.

- Compare quotes covering the same work and period.
- Check later costs before choosing an introductory offer.

Copy these questions into your reply to the person quoting you. If a question does not apply to your plans, leave it out.

- Which registration, licence and other official charges are included?
- What professional help does the price cover?
- Is any workspace included, and for how long?
- If I need residency, which application costs are included?
- What would I need to pay separately?
- What will need renewing, when, and at what quoted cost?
- Does the total include any applicable taxes and extra charges?
- Who handles each part of the work?

Is one licence fee the total cost of starting a company?
No. A licence fee is one line in a quote. A full setup can also involve registration, any workspace you need, visa applications and the fee for professional help. Ask for each item to be listed separately so you can see the full total.
What is a renewal, and when does it happen?
A renewal is a payment to keep something valid when its current period ends. Your business licence, workspace and any residency visas each have their own dates. Ask for a written list of what renews, when, and at what cost.
Do I also need to budget for accounting?
